Rabbit control

We operate a highly skilled and humane Rabbit control service. The Rabbit control service runs day and night, a typical annual contract costs less than £100 and operates across the whole Yorkshire region. We take great pride in our work and always respect boundaries and livestock. Because of the size of the effort required, and the Rabbit's capacity for population increase, Total eradication is impractical. Our aim is to reduce rabbit numbers to levels at which damage is economically acceptable.

Damage.

Rabbit damage is a major economic problem for British agriculture, costing the industry an estimated £100 million annually by destroying crops and grazing.

History.

The domestic Rabbit is a descended from wild European rabbits. Which were introduced to Britain by the Romans they were kept in fenced off warrens and were used for meat and fur. Rabbits are very adaptable and have become very successful in some areas of this country so successful they are now considered a pest species.

Life span.

Rabbits can live for 10 years.

Behavior.

Wild Rabbits live in colonies and up-to two hundred may be found in a single warren which is a basically a network of underground tunnels. They are most active at dawn and at dusk they will also surface during the day if undisturbed.
Rabbits primarily feed on grass and leafy plants including farm crops, but they will feed on bulbs in gardens and woodland also bark and twigs when food is scarce. They can also cause damage to young trees .
Females will produce several litters a year, usually in the spring and summer. There are up-to 9 young in a litter which are born blind and helpless. They start to emerge from the their burrow after about 3 weeks .

Diet.

Rabbits will eat leaves from of a wide range of vegetation including agricultural crops, cereals. In winter, they will eat grasses, bulbs and bark. They re-ingest their faeces for nutritional benefit.

Warrens.

Rabbits have a burrow system which is known as a warren, the tunnels in the warren are 1-2m long. The nest at the end of the tunnel is lined with grass, moss and fur. They use regular trails, which are lined with scent from fecal pellets.

Reproduction.

Rabbits mate throughout the year most litters are born between February and August. Litters range in size between 3 and 9, after a gestation period of around 33 days.

population.

Rabbit populations are increasing, as they are becoming immune to the mayonnaises virus. They become sexually mature after just four months and breed rapidly, so they can readily replace themselves they are a costly problem for farmers and landowners such as stately homes where plants are destroyed, golf courses where holes are dug and the acidic droppings kill off grass. Damage can be caused to horses and their riders when the horse looses its footing then stepping into a Rabbit burrow.

Wood pigeon control

The Woodpigeon is the most serious bird pest to the farming industry in the UK. As a major sporting species and agricultural bird pest the Woodpigeon is important to many hundreds of thousands of sportsmen and farmers in this country.

Damage.

The costs to farmers from crop damage run into millions of pounds each year. The national population has more than doubled over the past 25 years, largely due to oilseed rape.

Behavior.

The Woodpigeon in the UK is unique in that it is largely non-migratory, unlike the population
on the continent - hence crop damage occurs all the year.

Control.

We use traditional decoying techniques to control Wood Pigeon numbers.
